Writing

During term 6, our aim is to encourage as much independence and confidence with writing as possible, which is why we are focusing on two fantastic adventure stories.

End of Year R Early Learning Goal for Literacy- Writing:

Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible.

Reading at Home

Reading books are changed throughout the week. Our main change days are still Tuesday and Friday, but please bring your reading record into school every day for us to check and change books as necessary.

Please read with or to your child every day and record all reading you do inside your Reading Record.

We give 2 books per book change are given- 1 phonic book and 1 pleasure of reading book to share.

They will have 1 phonics book that will match the sounds and word structure your child has been taught. They should be able to read all words in their Phonics book so please encourage them to sound out each word carefully if they need to. You can help them to blend the sounds together to read the word if they need it.

The second book will be an Oxford Reading Tree book which are the books the children have been taking home up until now. This book will be for you and your child to enjoy at home, reading together. Encourage your child to have a go at reading the words, and use the pictures to help them. They might not be able to read all words in these books using phonics, as they aren't completely phonetically decodable, so please guide your child through the book, using the pictures for clues.

End of Year R Early Learning Goal for Literacy- Reading:

Children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular words (tricky words). They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.

Mathematics

During term 6 we will be consolidating key skills whilst completing Phase 9: Find My Pattern, and Phase 10: On the Move of the White Rose Maths Early Years scheme.

Phase 9 includes Doubling, Sharing, Grouping, Halving, and exploring odd and even numbers.

Phase 10 includes Problem-solving, exploring patterns and relationships, and Spatial reasoning.

Please click here to access the Early Years White Rose Home learning page, featuring videos and activitiess which are useful for consolidating learning done in school if needed.

End of Year R Early Learning Goal for Maths- Numbers:

Children count reliably with numbers from one to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.

End of Year R Early Learning Goal for Maths- Shape, Space and Measure:

Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems. They recognise, create and describe patterns. They explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them.

PE

PE continues to be on a Tuesday morning. Please come dressed in your PE kit. Earrings and jewelry should be removed before you come to school.
