Welcome to Year 3 and Kearsney Class! We are named after beautiful Kearsney Abbey, just a little way from our school, and we have a wonderful year of learning and adventures ahead of us.
I’m Mrs Ciantar, and I am very lucky to be joined in Year 3 by Mrs Jacobson and Mrs Reidy, our fantastic teaching assistants. Together, we want Kearsney Class to be a happy, welcoming place where children feel safe to be themselves, excited to learn and proud of what they achieve. Building strong relationships with the children is incredibly important to us, and we want every child to know that they are a valued member of our class.
This year, we are going to travel a very long way back in time! We will begin by exploring prehistoric Britain, discovering how people survived during the Stone Age before journeying through the Bronze Age and Iron Age. We’ll investigate archaeological evidence, discover how new inventions changed people's lives and ask some BIG historical questions along the way.
Our learning will also take us around our incredible planet. We will become geographers as we investigate weather and climate, explore our world and develop our understanding of the Earth. Later in the year, we'll bring our geographical learning much closer to home as we investigate our local area of Dover and consider why our locality is worth preserving. Finally, we'll head to the seaside to explore coasts, discovering what happens when the land meets the sea.
There will be plenty more along the way! We will investigate rocks in Science, create prehistoric-inspired artwork, develop our skills as musicians, learn French, become increasingly confident mathematicians and, of course, read and write lots of wonderful stories.
Reading is at the heart of our classroom. We want our children to discover books that make them laugh, wonder, imagine and sometimes never want to put them down! Sharing books at home makes an enormous difference, so we encourage children to read with an adult at least four times each week. It doesn't need to be a long session; even a few minutes spent enjoying a story together is valuable.
We also believe that school should be full of memories. This year, Kearsney Class will be working our way through our 10:10 List- ten special things we'd love to do together: eat ice cream, have a teddy bear picnic, enjoy a bouncy castle, have a gaming day, visit soft play, throw a class party, have a movie day, visit a museum, go to the beach and have a pyjama day! We'll see how many we can tick off before July...
And, of course, no introduction to Kearsney Class would be complete without mentioning Tink, our little ginger class mascot, who will be joining us on our adventures throughout the year!

Most of all, I hope Year 3 will be a year in which the children learn lots, laugh lots, become more independent, grow in confidence and make memories together.
We can't wait to see where the year takes us!
